HVAC Repair Services FAQs

How Do I Know When I Need HVAC Emergency Services?

Not many people know when their HVAC systems are experiencing issues or if there’s an emergency, which can often cause hesitation to seek help. Leaving any problems unchecked can lead to the situation getting worse and their house can end up being too hot or too cold. To know if your HVAC unit needs emergency repair services, make sure to check for signs of:

  • The heater’s heating ability is insufficient or stopped entirely
  • Water leakage near the HVAC unit
  • Losing electrical power or the breaker keeps tripping
  • Unusual sounds from the HVAC unit
  • Strange odors like rotten eggs or something burning

Shut down your HVAC unit if you notice any of these symptoms, that way you can prevent any damage from worsening. Afterward, notify our team for help. If you notice smoke coming out of the unit, evacuate your home and contact our team when you’re at a safe distance, as this could be a sign of a gas leak or a fire starting within the unit.

How Cold Should My Air Conditioner Be Blowing?

Your air conditioner will blow out a certain temperature of air that will depend on the temperature that it receives in the return. In most cases, the room air should typically be between 15 and 20 degrees cooler than what goes into the unit. However, if there is excess humidity present, the specific range can become mildly varied. Let your HVAC unit run for at least 15 minutes before comparing the return air temperature to that of the blowing air.

What Does it Mean If My Air Conditioner Freezes Up?

If you notice that your air conditioner has frozen up, the most likely cause is restricted airflow. Try turning the system off right after you’ve noticed the issue and verify that the filter is in good condition. If it’s clean, then you might have accidentally blocked the air return or there is possibly a leak in the refrigerant. Double-check your vents before notifying our team. If necessary, we can look to see if there’s a leak that we can address.

What Are Some Common HVAC Emergencies?

Your HVAC unit can potentially experience a wide range of emergency issues throughout its lifetime. One of the most common ones involves clogged condensate lines, which typically cause leaks in the system. These lines are meant to accumulate excess moisture and release it away from the HVAC unit to the outside of your home to avoid damage. Frozen coils can occur when the air conditioner is blowing air that’s too cold, causing the airflow to become blocked. This can happen when the unit is running A/C while it’s below 60 degrees outside or when the refrigerant begins to leak. Tripped breakers or a blown fuse can also occur when the HVAC system is overworked and there is a dirty air filter. Your home’s furnace can also malfunction, causing your heater to work inefficiently. Whatever the issue may be, make sure to notify your HVAC expert so they can assess the situation and perform repairs if possible.
